It\'s blowing a \'hoolie\' outside

and all that Metcheck and the inshore forecast seem to think we should have is 12-16mph winds!

On the Beaufort, branches are swaying on the trees And our chimbley pot is rattling. Not much between us here in Mounts Bay and France mind you.

So is this a micro-climate thing (in this area we usually have fog! when no-one else has it) or have you all got wind at the moment?

Isn't it just? I brought a boat back from Falmouth yesterday, and the inshore waters forecast never varied from "easterly 4-5" despite the fact that there was very clearly 30-35 knots of breeze for a large part of the day and into the late evening. So that was a lovely bash to windward. Sometimes makes you want to call the coastguard and suggest they might like to look out of the window...

And the local tv just reported that Air-Sea Rescue @ Culdrose just pulled a bunch of students in. The students didn't think it would be rough!

New seaweed needed for the Met boys?

I was listening to the poor old coastguard give out the weather forecast and when they'd finished their calm seas and gentle winds bit an aggrieved voice came on and said it was blowing old socks where he was. Coastguard was apologetic, agreed he'd got far more wind than the forecast but claimed he was constrained by what the met boys had given him.
