Having seen the environment agency weather warning on the news I have just been down to Christchurch Harbour. Highest tide I have ever seen. The waves are breaking over Mudeford Quay and the forecast says it will be worse at high water tomorrow morning. My boat is on a river bank mooring 2 miles up river from the harbour and already the tide is over the top of the landing stage and is starting to cover the river bank.

This is worth a look ! http://www.isleofwightweather.co.uk/live_storm_data.htm

You wouldn't mind popping over to Gosport and checking my boat would you? With the Southerly F8 and what you are saying I reckon the pontoon will lift off the piles tomorrow at about 0900 hrs.

Chichester bar the wind has only reached a peak of 43kts, and is now dropping back. The tide was predicted 4.3m, and has surged to just over 5m. Thank goodness that was not next weeks big springs - 4.8m would have taken it to 5.6 /5.7.

Watch for tomorrow when the wind is supposed to peak again on the next HW.

I know there is no scientific basis - but this storm does seem to be closely following the HW up the channel. Peak winds last night around 8.30 - HW, again tonight, the winds peaked just on the HW, and predicted to do the same tomorrow morning.

emsworth yacht basin was all ok - well - all I could see on my way down to shift a couple of fenders on our boat anyway ...

Does it really still come as a shock when the storm comes around the first fortnight of November?

I would ask SimonJKL to confirm this, but he never answers messages on this forum. I am certain a graph of say the last 30 years will bear out what I say though.
