It\'s a gas

My new boats gas supply is from a camping Gaz 907 cylinder, with a simple regulator and a short section of hose connecting it to the boats copper gas pipe.
I understand that you should renew these things from time to time and the tube and regulator look prime contenders. My question is: Do I have to use the expensive Gaz, or is there any other alternative, i.e calor, butane or BP. For instance the BP bottle is plastic which (if it fitted the locker) would put an end to the rust staining from the metal cylinders. Any advice from you knowledgible people would be helpful.

Hose every 5 years, regulator 10 years I think is the recommendation.

Of course you can use a different bottle. eg A small Calor butane. But you will need a different regulator to fit it.

I suggest you consider a bulkhead mounted regulator, if possible, with an HP hose from the bottle. You can then get a GAZ to Calor adaptor/valve and retain the option to use Gaz when required.

Also consider the possibility of a 30mbar regulator then you can also swap over to propane if desired. You'll need a different HP hose though for propane or butane.

http://www.calormarineshop.co.uk/index.htm for info and bits and pieces although a caravan shop will be cheaper.

I believe that Calor are just about to introduce plastic bottles. Don't know anything about sizes but worth finding out if you are about to change.

The problem when cruising some distance is finding somewhere to exchange them, no problem if you are mostly a weekender, slightly more of a problem if you are UK cruising on a longer time frame and impossible if going into Europe. Which is why we stick with Camping Gaz, available everywhere, despite its exaggerated cost in UK and France.
