Italian Tax

This summer we are leaving Greece for Southern France. Whilst planning the trip I have discovered the Italian government has introduced a tax which subjects yachts to a daily tax whilst in Italian waters. The information I have states that it is a daily tax (8 euros per day for a 12m boat, with reductions for older yachts). This works out at nearly 3000 euros per annum!

Does anyone out there have up to date information on this tax? How is it collected? Italian waters, is it a 12 mile limit? Etc..

It's going to be bad enough paying the astronomical harbour "fees"!

there are plenty of inexpensive places. just avoid the marinas of the superyachts and anything in between. go up the rivers if you can to search out the boatyards of locals, if your not bothered about all the bells and whistles that go with a big marina that is.

EDIT> I will also add, I haven't quite sussed out yet how to pay a yard without them sticking the Italian boat tax on, (I'm sure they back pocket that on a foreign boat), hence why so many people think italy is so expensive. But even so, there are a few rivers that contain basic boat storage yards that are reasonable, i will update when i find one that doesnt stick the italian boat tax on. (Italian boat tax is charged by the marina, 12m= etc + Tax....) with foreign boats im sure they charge the same anyway and the local who collects your dosh sticks the so called TAX in his back pocket !

I hope that makes sense. But it probably doesnt because of course this is ITALY !

it's not a boat tax. there's nothing of the sort for foreigners. Most probably it'S just VAT: you pay a 21% tax (and soon more) for every transation. Marina or yards bills included.
Best
