Thanks

The Lega Navale is a century-old public body whose aims are to instil a love of the sea amongst Italians, safeguard the environment and teach boating in its various forms, especially to the young. It is true (I see) that members enjoy small discounts in one or two marinas outside Italy, and presumably in Lega Navale marinas around Italy itself. Its purpose is not to provide a discount scheme, however. Moreover, it is open only to Italian citizens of 'exemplary honour'. The website is: http://www.leganavale.it
Hope this helps!

I have agood Italian friend/colleague, his general advice is beware of any institution that is only open to Italian citizens of 'exemplary honour'.

He also advises that the NW coast up and around to San Remo is now very much under Russian Oligarth control (maybe with some added local connections)

He was originally from that area, we intended to tour the region with the idea of staying local guest houses and eating in local restaurants etc. However according to him, all the quaint old Italian guest houses/resataurant/delis etc have all been sold. The owners took the big money that was on offer and moved inland to retire.

All the quaint old traditional Italian stuff is now designer shops selling expensive furs etc to rich Russians. For some reason they like to go on holiday and buy furs in the middle of the summer.

As Metabarca says, you have to be an Italian citizen or resident to be a member. There are Lega Navale pontoons and clubhouses in many Italian ports and they are often in the best places due to their historic involvement with the sea in each town or area. Some welcome visiting yachts (non-member Italians or foreign) and others just send you away. We had a few good experiences and the charges were quite modest compared with commercial marinas. They are not set up as commercial marinas so don't expect anyone to come and take your lines as you appear. If you want to use the facility you will probably have to find a temporary tie-up point and then search out the Marinaro.

If you see a Lega Navale sign and the mooring place looks good, it is worth an ask.
