when we were in sines i changed the propeller,the spare splitpin i had wouldn't fit ,but a mate of mine gave me one he had as a spare ,,all fitted everything good.
i,ve just had the diver in to change it again(expermenting with different sizes/pitchs) all goes well and i have another new split pin for him ,which he fits all ok.the one he has taken out ia all mangled but it looked corroded,on checking with a magnet i've found it was mild steel.checked the new ones i'd just bought and they were stainless so all ok.
the one my mate gave me in sines was meant to be stainless, he had got it on that assumption,and i had no magnet at hand to check it ,though to be honest it didn't occur to me,all i wanted to do was finish the job before the tide rose.
the moral is" all is not necessarily as it seems"
