\"It must be love...\"

.. said my good lady yesterday, as we climbed onto our fifth boat of the day. The wind was whistling in from the North Sea, and the sky was ominously dark. Kicking snow off our shoes, and blowing on our frozen hands, we managed to unlock the companionway and climb gratefully below. "At least the brokers will realise we are serious buyers" she said "Nobody else would be so b****y stupid as to do this"

Whatever the reverse of brownie points are, I've got them in spades.... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Sad to prick the self assessed bubble, but I believe that brokers have a great deal of difficulty recognising serious buyers at all. They just had you as a statisitic for the monthly figures. Their success is predicated on how many times they hand out the keys, and the smarter ones have a multiplier for low temperatures or extremes of weather. I believe they also get a snall bonus multiplier if the Man manages to bring along a woman not suitably attired for the occasion of going up 12 feet of ladder over a slck and swinging guardrail.
Fifth you say..... considering the inclemency on the East Coast, a commendable effort. You do want her to stay in this boating lark with you?

Come on then, what are you looking at?
And have you found anything with a glimmer of hope in it?

Re: \"It must be love...\"

Hi Jim,

We were very taken with a Dufour 32 at Titchmarsh, Walton. (we also took a liking to the marina - the staff in the office were cheerful & helpful. Having tried to reduce the brownie point deficit by buying the Memsahib Sunday lunch, we also took a liking to the resaurant...).

Also looked at a Gibsea 33 at Walton, which didn't push the same buttons as the dufour. (We'd agree with the YM test report which was critical of the lack of chart table & stowage). The boat was also a little over our budget.

We looked at a couple of Bennys & a Moody 31 in Ipswich. I quite like the 311, though my potential co-skipper wasn't too sure.

Good fun, this boat hunting... /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Re: \"It must be love...\"

Agree entirely Jim....

I'm in the market at the moment as well.... I have the cash sat there, and I've had several calls not returned... a couple of decided 'lack of interests'... one broker just told me to turn up when I felt like it, didn't ask for my name, no questions to find out my seriousness, etc etc.... not exactly earning their commission in my opinion.... just waiting for the boat to sell itself, and then pocketing the commission.....

Just on a related other tack for a mo - I didn't realise that you can't transfer more than £10k a day to buy your boat with. This leaves me with 583 quid to pay tomorrow. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif So if your thinking of a quick electronic transfer and away, plan a bit more carefully!

What are you looking at/for NAS?

Re: \"It must be love...\"

Jim,

something for me, SWMBO, and the 2 ankle biters....ages 6 and 9..... plus occasional guests to a max 8 for day sails or 6 for overnighting....

something safe, seaworthy, solid, maybe needs a little bit of tidying work, but not too much...

something cruising oriented, but not a complete tub... perhaps 30' to 33'.....

I've looked at Moody 33 and similar to date....

budget around £25k

Not asking much am I! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Lots of boats about which fit you're requirements - especially if your not averse to a little maintenance. A friend recently picked up a UFO31 for just over £9K - needs some work, but that must be the bargan of the year so far...

Regards, Jeff.
