Our planned flotilla holiday has fallen through :-( As this was the centre piece of our sailing year, things now look a bit flat. So if anybody wants an occasional extra pair of hands to pull ropes, push tillers and buy a round in the bar(!), it would be great to log a few extra miles.

cheers, John

Nothing to do with the flotilla holiday itself; it's simply that the couple we were going with have decided to buy a property in southern France, and so will be short of time and money - hence they have dropped out. (We hadn't actually booked, so no financial problem).

I have to agree, go for it.

My (then) partner and I went to the Ionian on a villa/flotilla holiday a few years back. Had a great time.

As we had no certificates to show, a 4 day course was required (RYA L2 Keelboat). There were 5 of us on a 31ft Moody (including the instructor). There were maybe 10-12 other boats too, we all met up for lunch.

Unfortunately we were informed at the end of the 3rd day that my partner was not going to pass, no surprise here, she even failed the dinghy courses.

Looms the prospect of hiring a skipper for the flot'.

Our last chance was spending the last day with the "off" flotilla leader. I handled the sailing, "lining-up", and the bow anchor. What followed got my partner a round of applause as she came to a perfect stop handed the lines and gave a bow (brought up on mfv's) /forums/images/icons/wink.gif.
..She still didnt pass, just made the tea and snacks on the long way back, where I might add, I learnt a lot more about the finer art of sailing from our young (to us) racing skipper (I wish we had had the spinnaker on board). You cant beat one to one tuition.

We had a great time just the 2 of us on our Moody 31s, the flotilla was free and easy, just be at "so and so" by 1800.

My partners problems were: "Theres no steering wheel", "Will you please stop it going sideways"!!
Consequently we used to get a lot of "How can you be overtaking me with a reef in"?/forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Again, go for it.

Dave.

John,

If you want some sailing, we can offer some crewing for club racing with us on sunday mornings. Problem is you're in Cambridge.. If you can make it, you're most welcome.

We had a stinkie last weekend who loved it, who looks like becoming a regular.

Anyway, let us know.

Go on your own, just the two of you. If you take a reasonable sized boat (28'-32') and its a flotilla there's always the lead skipper to help you.

Don't loose a good holiday?

All things are possible! The Solent is fine for a weekend sail; it's pushing it a bit for a day sail (c3 hours driving each way). The East coast is a more likely destination for a "24 hour pass" .
I had a couple of weekends out on the Solent last year, with a former colleague who sails from the Hamble, and thoroughly enjoyed them.

A friend of mine and his missus regularly go to Greece and bareboat a 28-32'er. He's got a Coastal Skipper ticket, she's got nothing official - they manage fine.
Go on, you'll have the added help of a flotilla leader.
