Ongoing saga of the fuel starvation.
- New fuel pipes fitted either side of the fuel pump.
- New filter fitted earlier in the season

However with the pump removed from the engine and operatered by hand it pumps loads from ex-lemonade bottle to ex-lemonade bottle. When connected to the block it looks like the "cam" in the engine is not moving the pump lever enuf.

Can't see any adjustment on the pump and the cam is inside the engine.

With the LT leads off and the engine turning over, there is little pumping pressure - massive when taken off and done by hand.

What am I missing ?????????

have you got the right pump?

is it operated by a lever or pushrod?

is there a "block" between the pump and mounting face?

xxx

replace with right pump

pushrod (if fitted) could be worn

wrong size "insulator block" fitted

let me know how you get on.

<font color=blue>Yes its a plastic spacer, about 5mm, same shape as the flange, between pump and block <font color=black>

now you have a choice....

either the spacer (isolator) is too thick.... or it's too thin.

if it's too thin the pump's binding on the cam and not getting full stroke..

or, the pump's too far away from the cam, in which case you could try doing away with the isolator in favour of a plain gasket.

to check, undo the bolts/nuts and delivery side hose. so that the pump's loose, turn over engine until you can feel the cam pushing out to its max, then try refitting the pump "feeling" the resistance against the spring.

remember, the pump will remain under pressure when the needle valves in the carbs are shut, and you'll only get the tension of the return spring, not the diaphragm.

....good luck. let me know what the score is..

Engine now running and sounding good.
Pump is now pumping a good amount of fuel.

sounds heathly ..... famous last words
gunna leave it tonight and see if it starts OK in the morning .....

Plan to launch Wednesday morning nr Worcester and run down the Severn to Upton for the water festival. Even if I find a clear bit of the river there is a speed limit and I wont be able to give her a blast /forums/images/icons/wink.gif.

Once its sorted then a trip to the sea must be in order for a run at speed .....

Errr ummm - well

Dunno that I've sovled it yet but the possible couses rectified are:-
- the movement on the cam is much less than the total movement by hand so I guess its bound to work better by hand
- fuel pipe at join to pump seems weak hence possible collapse / restriction
- diaphram re-fitted and pump cleaned

Seems to be pumping much better - disconnected by the carbs and fed into a bottle.

Oh I dunno - piggin thing - hate things that arent logical.
Love to have said - replaced part A or adjusted screw B but just doesn't want to be like that.

So, you are going to go back into the water, furiously pumping the fuel pump by hand, whilst one of the kids holds the fuel line together...................../forums/images/icons/crazy.gif

Ok, sounds good to me............../forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

The new fuel lines are ISO 7840, so proper job and all new clips /forums/images/icons/crazy.gif.

I was actually thinking more of taking the Air intake cover off and pouring fuel directly into the carbs. /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif 3 carbs = 3 kids, leaves one spare for bow rope.
Tee hee
