It all depends on the Stockmarket

For many years now the fortunes of the boat market lags a little behind that of the stockmarket. For example in the early 90's both stockbrokers and yacht bokers were finding it equally difficult to sell their wares resulting in depressed prices. Then the stockmarket started moving forward closely followed by the boat market. Prices escalated rapidly until the second half of the nineties. Then the stock market reached a plateau closely followed by the boat market. The boat market is still on theis plateau.

The aberration of course is that there was an influx of cheap imported boats related to the value of the pound so compare like with like.

On this basis should a shrewd boat owner sell now for the best price possible and buy his boat again after the fall that is bound to follow the recent stock market fall. Should Steve wait six months to buy and save a packet.

Re: Guns or Boats

ah, but he won't have a boat in the meantime, will he? And since he lives at 100mph, he's probly aslready bought it. Worse, you are making everyone v worried with doom-mongering. So the best thing is to all go out and buy a new boat immediately, thereby raising demand and causing all lovely market growth, consumer confidence and so on. Incidentally, I tried to buy some factory gates recently as the price is very stable, but have no ideea who sells them?....

Save & buy a packet ... now there'a boat, only problem(apart from price) is the yukky cream colour.

My feeling is that the current Stock Exchange fall is not due to recession but more to do with uncertainty and a reaction to past over valuation. The scenario you describe relates to the [lagging] correlation of the economy & share prices. Howevcer the real effect on boat prices is the economy with share prices in the past having been an indicator of that economic state. I don't think the economy is heading for a crash so I'd buy the boat anyway & if it all goes tits up, then as long as you're not in hock up to your eyebrows then the sailing will take away the pain!

Re: Guns or Boats

Look at it as a business opportunity, upgrade your boat for free by selling now and buying back soon. Think of all the pleasure visiting brokers, travelling all over the country for the exceptional boat advertised.

As for factory gates, not long ago Rival Bowman were selling some cheap

Re: Guns or Boats

Try Cannock Gates - do all sorts of gates, wooden & steel - always seem to be on special offer.

Re: Gates

Aha, yes cheers, excellent.

I've also noted that the financial times index is much lower too. Perhaps they could print it slightly higher up than the bottom of the page to stop all the fuss?
