It’s never too late to buy your first boat....

I'll have to wait another year until i buy my first boat.

I spent my boat money on New York property and a Shelby Cobra ?

We bought ours (Princess 435) at 55 - learned to use it over the next two years and then spent a summer getting to the Med via Biscay

How did you plan for Biscay?

What was your sea state criteria?

Ive been through there a few times on cruise ships and it was never pleasant. Cant imagine what its like on a 44 foot boat

At the other end of the age spectrum: I was looking at a Nimbus 280 last year which was for sale as the owner was retiring from boating. He had taken her out on his own in June but decided that it was all getting a bit too much for him.
He was 103 years old!!
RESPECT!!

Carefully, in a word!

We coast hopped all the way, leaving London in May and arriving in La Coruna in September. That was partly what we wanted to do (retirement trip) and partly insurer's restriction for Biscay.

Our plans were to motor for only 3-5 hours a day where possible, and we stopped 2-3 nights in each place for sightseeing. If we didn't like the look of the weather, we stayed longer.

The only dodgy bit was Cap Breton to Getxo and that was swell from the Shelf, not weather.

My only Brittany ferry trip from Bilbao was like a millpond!

I am just considering a 40ft motor boat, first boat at 75 am I pushing my luck ?
Generally fit apart from the few aches you get , wIll my age e a problem for insurance ?

Ask an insurer! Bishop Skinner, Pantenaeus etc.
Will you be single handed. If so, then the answer is yes! You will be pushing your luck.
If two up, can the other person run between bow and stern with lines?

Plan is myself swmbo , but daughter son in law and hopefully 2 x17 yo grand kidds.
Who I wou like to inspire towards boats, I have some experience athough 40 years ago
but no qualifications (yet)
I feel I just need to regain some confidence , so will take some training .
