My boat has an Isotherm GE 80 fridge kit fitted to its cool box.
Until recently the fridge worked, the evaporator plate was cold to the touch with some frost, though I do not know how efficiently it ran. Now the compressor runs almost continuously but the evaporator plate does not cool. I suspect a loss of refrigerant is cause of the problem, though I'm happy to receive other suggestions.
A new GE 80 fridge kit comes charged with refrigerant. Does anyone know if in a new kit is the refrigerant delivered in both the evaporator plate and compressor unit or just the evaporator?
I would like to think a solution is just to replace the evaporator plate (£86) rather than the whole system(£400), i.e. the evaporator plate contains sufficient gas for the fridge.
My boat is in NW Scotland so there are no refrigeration technicians nearby to fix or recharge the fridge with refrigerant.
