Hi. Our two part plastic ball style isomat boom gooseneck attachment on 1980 mirage 28 mk 2has given up the ghost . Anyone any experience of replacing this /cost ? Anyone tried modifying it with a new fitting ? Rig rite in USA mention this part but it was fairly flimsy to begin with an I don't know if they still supply parts. Also original boom itself is in poor order so we would like to replace it anyhow We have been offered for free another isomat boom with a slightly larger section and in better condition but it too has the old claw fitting so same problem. Ie how to attatch it to mast . Could it be easier cheaper N more efficient to fit a new non isomat boom an new gooseneck. Also should we run the reefing lines externally on new boom Any advice appreciated.

Well rig rite are the only Isomat suppliers I believe. Your flimsy gooseneck lasted 30+ years. Not too bad. But yes, you could buy, or get made, a new gooseneck fitting. Likely standard parts might fit if you change the boom fitting also. USA supplied parts will have shipping and vat to be added. Ship usps for less import duty. DHL, UPS, etc will bill you heavily for taking care of import duties that are not due! Don't ask me how I found this out. USPS is different to UPS

Talk to a local rigger. Look for 2nd hand parts, or just get a part made to your spec

Running reefing lnes inside the boom may allow for a better purchase mechanism in the boom itself.

Pics may be helpful if you want advice

Difficult to picture exactly what you describe without pictures, a couple of different set ups spring to mind both I believe Eurospars in Plymouth supply.

I have an Isomat rig and found these people very helpful www.rigrite.com/
Based in New Jersey USA they stock an impressive range of parts and spares, prices not unreasonable
I cannot locate their email address right now but if you phone them they will provide it

I have one of those, I am planning to replace it in a few years.

I am informed that http://www.allspars.co.uk/ might be able to help. Sometime in the winter I am planning to take my boom down to Plymouth for them to have a look at.

Thanks to all who replied I was given the link www.RigRite.com for the parts but it seemed to be invalid. Believe the part I want is NB1 gooseneck ball an clip kit. We have the old gooseneck an it's in ok condition so this should fit. I think they recommend an sell a kit to change the old gooseneck an supply new diff shaped gooseneck an fitting which is said to be stronger. But I'm not keen on drilling more holds in the 1980 mast Think it's all going to prove expensive

Sorry that I can't help with the most useful piece of information namely the supplier but I had a Mirage 28 a few years ago and had to replace the fitting. I'm sure the supplier was in the West Country so Plymouth sounds about right. I got the 2 parts that make up the plastic fitting and the clip. My recollection is that it wasn't cheap, maybe about £20/25.

Update on this thread. The plastic two partball fitting for the isomat boom has been purchased from very helpful eurospars It comes in two parts that sit on top of each other an is secured by two springs. Does anyone know the order of assembly. Do we attach it to gooseneck first an then try an put on boom ? When do the clips go on. An does the angle of the boom matter ? Our old fitting is so perished it is useless to try an work It out using that ?
