Just a little heads up for anyone thinking of heading out this way.

The visitor moorings in Porthcressa are being removed, there were only a few left this morning. I have no idea if they are clearing all the ground tackle used so if anchoring there it may be prudent to use a tripping line until it is deemed clear.

Weren't these private moorings run by a husband and wife team of which he worked as a diver for St Mary's Port?

Seemed to be some question as to whether the main port in Hugh Town was entirely happy with the setup last year.

Good, they were over priced and in the way of a decent anchorage (in the right conditions). Too many moorings have crowded out the deeper anchorages (in my opinion).

Yep. The same at New Grimsby, Tresco. I paid £20 a night there for no facilities in which would be otherwise a nice anchoring area. In Hugh Town, I paid a little less, and they had good facilities.

Those belong to the Duchy of Cornwall. Be pleased, then, you are contributing to the maintenance of one of Olde England's heritage structures - the Monarchy.

I looked at portcressa at low tide and there seemed a lot of rocks around. I presume the moorings were clear of the rubbish but how viable is it to moor there as a visitor? I agree about the gouging nature of New Grimsby prices and dried out Green Bay on several occasions instead, and my only reservation on my hoped for new boat is that being a longkeeler I will need to keep afloat and all the sheltered tidal spots charge you, even for anchoring in some cases.
