Very unlucky to pass on the one day a year it was in the channel. There’s no reason that boat should have expected the ferry to move!
And there I was thinking what’s more remarkable, a chain ferry hit a boat or the Cowes chain ferry had passengers on.

These jokes are becoming very old now 🥴

There must be more to this, apparently the ferry gave 3 lots of 5 blasts. i Would assume mechanical failure or a medical issue.

I'd assume the ferry would have stopped.

I'd speculate that maybe the yacht's keel hit the chains then the yacht slid along the chain to hit the ferry?

How close do you pass ahead of a chain ferry?
It says 10m clear on the side of the 'floating bridge' but personally I'd think that was dicey looking at the angle the chain is making?

I'd say 'always' go well behind, but if you ever go through Torpoint at rush hour you can't always go behind all three!
