You wouldn't go without charts, pilots and almanac.
So they are probably a good start.

Locked marina at Douglas, drying harbours at Peel, Port St Mary, Laxey, Castletown and Ramsey. Deepwater berths also at PStM. Anchorages at Port Erin.

PM if you need more info.

Take a look at my posting "Irish Sea charter" of 4th June 2004. This thread included advice on IoM. Also do a general search as this subject has come up several times.
Visited Port St Mary last month. Small quiet village. Exposed to SE but check pilot book for full details. Moored against wall so needed long warps and head for heights when scaling ladder at low Springs. Limited room for visitors in between fishing boats. Also some mooring buoys available. Harbour master must be the most helpful I've ever met.

There are 2 free visitor's mooring buoys at Port Erin, which are very scenic, and very open to the West. You can see them both in this pic...

There are plenty of other places too, that one's my suggestion though.

further to the other posts I believe they are planning opening a marina at Peel shortly. Even if they haven't built it yet I'd recommend a vist to watch the Basking sharks. Try the pub grub at the Marine Hotel also.

My wifes criteria for places to visit are however the quality of the showers and general facilities. For this I would recommend Douglas, Port St Mary, Castletown. If you can take the ground try for the inner harbours at PSM and Castletown. You can also purchase weekly tickets for berthing around the island at great discount.

Have fun.

Visited IOM while on Passage from Milford Haven > Whitehaven about a month ago spent a night in port st mary initially on Orange visitors bouys (lots of swell even in calm conditions - not fully in lee of harbour wall) after talking to harbour master moved to the wall for the night in allocated area for yachts - cheap too (around £8 for 38')

The next day we spent in Douglas due to the tides and wanting to get off early the next day we moored in the outer harbour alongside next to the gas/fuel tanks - not the pretiest of spots but handy to get in/out any state of tide.... though beware we were advised after berthing that there was a tanker coming in later that night in the berth to seaward of our berth (we were the only boat on 100m pontoon) and we would have to move off while berthing took place following an incident a few years back when tanker ploughed into yachts on the visitors pontoon... Douglas Harbour control very courteous and efficient - be sure to monitor Ch 12 for movements of the seacats and probably best to call on entry/exit to ensure no shipping movement.

Enjoyed my couple of days there and would like to return sometime soon though Scotland beckons... Enjoy your trip..

Be sure to get your pic taken with the 8850kg Bruce Anchor just down from the Sill/Lifting bridge in Douglas - apparently from a semi submersible drilling platform - think thats what the bruce was designed for..

Please note, you cannot pre-book a berth in the marina at Douglas. Just roll up call on ch12 and ask. You have the choice of pontoons or alongside the wall. Pontoons recomended. If full you will have to go on the battery pontoon. Get your shower tokens for the new shower block before they close the office about 6pm. If you go under the swingbridge, make sure you know which chanel to take (port or starboard) could save you a lot of reversing out!
