I was just looking through some old photographs and found this one taken during our stay at Port St Mary in August 1994, does anyone have any info on it? It is a most unusual craft.

Mary Slim

It looks very like Mary Slim
When I saw her in Plymouth she was all grey.
I believe powered by 2 x Rolls Royce driving water jets.
Designed so I am told to go through waves! not over them

VLAN design was all the rage for powerboats at the time. The phrase was on everyone's lips.

I saw the one in Plymouth as well, I think it was doing a round Britain trip. Maybe going for a record?

I asked a colleague what the acronym VLAN stood for....and found out it was:

Very Long And Narrow.

She rafted up to us in Douglas around that time. I couldn't work out or find out at the time if it was a pleasure craft project or some kind defence type craft or even a record breaking attempt.

Just have a feeling she was designed to counter drug smuggling and was built extensively of carbon to be invisible on radar.
I also have a feeling the Nick Keig was involved in the project.
