I stayed there recently - it is pleasant and quiet (apart from the tosser in the motor cruiser who ran his very noisy and very smelly engine for over an hour), although I'd have to day that the ablutions were dirty and not very pleasant and its also a bit over the top to call the bar/cafe a pub and bistro.
Staff were friendly - costs were too high for the facilities. However the walk back from Newport (Thai restaurant pretty good) in the pitch black through the woods was excellent fun.
What was worse though was getting out! If you decide to leave before "free flow" through the lock you are forced to wait in a small pool just insode the marina. I had the misfortune to do this in a F5. I'd say there were 8 or more yacht 25' to 40' in a pool about 6 boat lengths by 4 all trying to hold station - waiting to get into a lock that could only hold 4 boats and takes about 15 - 20 mins to empty and fill!
There were no collisions or damage but for all concerned this was stressful and a crap way to start your day.
Given that the lock takes 10 mins to fill why on earth can't the marina staff get their act together - so that you could tell them when you wanted to leave (approx). They could work out a simple queue and have planty of time to call you off you berth. Thus avoiding any hassle and stress - which is after all what a lot of us are looking for when we sail.
Ooh I get sooo mad!
