Is your boat left or right handed.

I am convinced that Stingo is a left handed boat, which is very inconvenient, because I am right handed. Let me give you an example: When retro-fitting a gizmo, the only access into the area where the gizmo needed to be bolted, is with my left hand. I am not ambidextrous enough to hold a gizmo, attach a washer and nut and tighten it all up with a No 14... No, let me try that again, with a No 13... No, let me try that again, with a No 12... No, it was actually the No 14 spanner to begin with, which keeps slipping off the... Feck, it IS the No 13 spanner after all.

Arrgggggggghhhhhhhhh!!!!

My next boat will be a right handed boat.

Noticed my boat was better on one tack than the other and then finally squinted up the mast track to see the mast had a slight athwartships bend. Adjusted the rigging to straighten it and suddently there was virtually no difference. I am sure a bit more finessing of the rig would have sorted it. Unless you have an assymetric hull or wonky keel I expect the biggest cause of apparent sailing variations on each tack is down to rig tuning. You could of course find your rig is not exactly symmetrical (chainplates further away on one side then the other) in which case the mast will flex differently on one tack compared to the other.

Also doesn't help if you are referencing the wind vane markers and haven't set it exactly fore and aft. Doubles the effect.

I don't think boats are left or right handed as it doesn't matter what I do things are always in the most inconvenient position if I need to reach them.

I'm sorry to be pedantic, but don't you mean 'port-handed' or 'starboard-handed'?

I can see a flaw in your plan, however: if you get a right [starboard] handed boat, the left [ port] handed gizmos might not fit at all, requiring extensive (= expensive) modification.

The alternative approach is to stand on your head when the access is wrong handed.

Let us know how you get on.

My next boat will be a right handed boat.

Right handed boats are only available to left handed people.

Have you also noticed that when you go to remove something that is secured with nuts and bolts the last nut is impossible to undo - no matter in what order you undo them, it's always the last nut that is seized? How does it know!?

Maybe its just French-I will never forget the Renault car van circa 1970s(those with the jacked up looking back end)You could not put brake fluid in the reservoir because everything connected with brakes and steering had been moved to the right hand side obstructing the reservoir which had been placed away from the brakes steering etc etc to allow access.
So why is the wheel on my boat European side with pipe runs on the other side and transiting across the boat in front of the engine?

Stongo lives inside my text correct. He was almost SoAgo but I have had a word with Mr Preferences and auld Ale is resumed.
But you might still need a pair of handed monkeys eh?

I am prepared to step in and help. In exchange for 10 days lazing about in the Carib, I will come and do all your left hand jobs, what with me being a life long cack hander.

Fair exchange, no robbery.

Sounds like a decent enough threat. Can you wait until I leave Sint Maarten and get to a more pleasing venue?
