Is this the most expensive antifouling ever?

Hauled out in Cagliari in Sardinia earlier this year. Staggered by the price of antifoul in the local chandlery: 600 euros for 10 litres! Compare this to about 200 Euros for 10 litres good Jotun antifoul bought in the UK. It would be cheaper to buy it here and courier it out. I can't believe for a minute that the locals pay that much, so does anyone know of a source of reasonably priced antifoul in Cagliari? ...otherwise we ain't antifouling this year!

Its definitely not that expensive in Alghero, just up the coast, well a long way up the coast actually!

I had the same reaction when I went to buy A/F in Cagliairi earlier this year. Twice the UK price. Capitulated and bought some cheaper stuff at, from memory, 65 euros for 2.5 litres. Boat is now in Greece with little apparent fouling, so perhaps the cheap stuff is not too bad.

Anti foul Cagliari

Go to the drogheiria in via Pineta, next to the AGIP filling station, and see Marco, who speaks good English, he has local a/f at about eu45/2.5l.

We anti fouled our boat in Le Grau de Roi, South of France in 2010 (Spano Chantier Navale). The boatyard sold us antifoul at about €18 per litre and told us it was what the local fishing boats used (approx. 25 large fishing trawlers in Le Grau). It has been very satisfactory and we are due to haul out soon and anti foul again in 2012. It was red oxide colour, don't know the name of it, but as the yard owner said, 'the fish don't care what colour it is'!

So it might be worth asking the local fishermen in Cagliari what antifoul they use.

Last year Jimmy Green Marine delivered 3 x 2.5 litres of International Micron Extra and 750ml of Primacon to Leros in Greece at their usual price, plus shipping costs of £45. We thought it was worth paying the shipping given that we wanted to use the Micron Extra and were quoted ridiculous prices by the local chandleries. Delivery took about 5 days.
