I think James is right - there is no corresponding high pressure nosing out from Scandinavia to link to the azores high - thus no blocking high - therefore more crap weather - I think!

They seem to be predicting the meltemi will kick in this weekend. At least someone is getting a summer. Now all we need is the Azores high to sort its self out like they are predicting for late next week.

They are not agreeing on anything that far ahead other than the Azores high is centred north of the Azores. The positions of the lows are all completely different.

Promising.

Long range seems to be dropping that idea I think. No sign of Scandinavian high joining up with Azores - so I think we are condemned to this cycle, though I think it will now be more benign - but not good.

As long as we don't have days on end of westerlies! that is until the 2nd Aug for the return voyage!

If you are waiting for a ridge all the way up to Scandinavia before you go sailing I suggest you sell the boat.

I only want a hint of a ridge over to the Black Sea with the Spanish low evident. As long as the lows are deflected just enough to keep Scotland green I will be happy. Waiting for the grass in the Orkneys to turn brown is something else. We live on a fine line in this country.

hmm .. we shook our heads, looked the other way, felt sorry, wondered if you'd had a hefty blow to the heid when we heard the victory's closed cockpit was no longer ... !!

errrr yes - SWMBO has come to realise that sailing is now about wearing Ollies every time you go out. I don't think we wore Ollies in 7 years before that. Anyway - it was she that wanted a more conventional boat. She disliked the Stern cabin with all those wonderful patio windows to look out of, which meant that people could look in at her! Wimen...!

I shall think twice about a winter cruise to cowes in minus 2C!
