Is there anything in sailing that isn't a compromise ?

My first boat was called 'Justabout'. It was just about seaworthy, just about as fast as could be expected, just about affordable, just about roomy enough, pointed just about high enough. In short it was just about everything you could look for in a boat, just not quite enough with every desirable feature compromised.

My boat is certainly a compromise. It wasn't, on the face of it, the best at any one point of choice, but it was the only one without a totally sales-killing design defect that we couldn't live with.

I'm struggling to think of one 😀🤔
What prompted your line of thought?

Any reply I could offer could be tailored or thought of along similar lines as your initial thought perhaps?

A pretty wide field, otherwise.

I could boor the forum with compromises.

Technically, but it’s a different definition than most of us use. Though as an ex Dart catamaran sailor, I can say that Darts are broadly similar. They can also have a similar attack method. I have seen a committee boat sunk by a Dart.
One interesting thing about submarines is that their stability curve inverts as they dive.

Sod’s Law. Or at least my version of it. Everything that could go wrong will.
D's corollary: everything that can't go wrong, will go wrong at some point.
It will happen at the most inconvenient time
Fixing it will require the one tool you left at home
If it is located on deck the most vital screw will evade your gras[p and fall in the water.
If it causes a boat handling disaster the You tube clip will have been posted before you finish mooringup.
