I have used wessex and other brands of the same oxalic acid stuff for years. However, TDS, who made the caulking on my new boat and are one of, if not the, the best deck maker(s) in the world (they have suppled royal huisman and feadship; they did cakewalk and rising sun, for example) have urged me not to use 2 part any more. They have a one part that is kinder to the wood and the caulk, and still creates the clean straw brown colour in a one-part process. I plan to use this and report back in a year...

Link is here, and there is a uk distributor whose name I have forgotten but I can look uo or you can google

Thanks Nick. I have no idea if this stuff is any good but on the basis TDS make it and recommend it, and aren't exactly a fly-by-night crowd, it must be worth a shot. They had a stnad at LIBs this year, beyond sunseeker. They're an interesting firm on the chemical front becuase they have hired chemists and developed and formulated their own caulks, which they make themselves. Ditto the cleaners, afaik. Quite a bit of horizontal integration there or whatever you call it

I dont like scrubbing away my teak and I like a silver colour to the teak.

I use Boracol, it is a biocide that soaks into the teak.

You paint it on with a paint brush, it is clear , odourless and when dry does not stain, it is not oily and it does not colour the teak. When dry you cant see when it is on the teak.

as its not oily it does not hold the dust and dirt either.

I clean it at the start of the season and apply a coat of Boracol, then clean the deck once in the summer and then another coat of Boracol in the autumn.

No green colouration, no sliperyness teak protected and teak not worn away by frequent cleaning.

My teak deck is getting thin in places through too frequent cleaning before i Bought the boat and I am trying to make it last as long as possible.

It is reccomended by Halberg Rassy for yacht teak decks in their owners manual.

On the boat I also treat the canvas screen covers and the canopy, at home the garden furniture and I am about to trat the roof of the wifes Fiat 500 soft top.

I have not tried it for athletes foot yet (joking).

Hi would you guys have pics of before and after so i know what result to expect thanks

The teak was varnished and I sanded it. Note to self: if you are going to sand for goodness sake check the thickness of teak before you cut through to a ply base and wish you'd left it alone.

However, you will easily go from the grey colour which is showing where the wood is exposed in the picture above to the straw-brown colour in the picture below without any sanding if you just have bare wood to deal with, just using the two part cleaner (of which Wessex is one brand - others exist).

The dark stains in this picture are just water - the wood wasn't quite dry when the picture was taken.
