Fitting two fridge thermostats in parallel?

My thinking is I could have one set at a lower temperature than the other. They will be linked to the fridge controller via a relay. The relay will choose which thermostat is in circuit.

When the engine is running the relay pulls the low temp 'stat into play and drives the temperature in the fridge to 'supercool'. Once I get sailing the relay de-energises, switches in the other 'stat which allows the fridge to warm to whatever normal temperature the fridge is set at.

Should be quite simple to do, question is will it save me enough amps to warrant it?

It might be simpler to bypass the thermostat with a relay and timer so that when you have plenty of power the fridge motor stays on for a long enough period to get really cold?

How cool is supercool and where are you sailing?

I've found an ordinary Waeco coolmatic with compressor stays cool for several hours when run at normal temps and then switched off.

Perhaps you'd be better served by putting the money towards something like an ADVERC battery management system thus allowing your battery to fully charge quite quickly, say 75amps in one hour, which i itself should keep the fridge running for almost two days.

isotherm...

do that type of thing, boosting the cooling when charging the batteries. the key point is that it is used with a eutectic plate which is frozen while the engine is running then thaws out over about 18 hours. doubt there's a lot of benefit without one.

Should work but what a lot of folks forget is that a full fridge is a lot more efficient than a half empty one. Fill every available nook and cranny with containers of water and note the difference in amps used!

there is no point

the thermostats DO NOT control the compressor as such. they run at one speed.
so you cannot control the rate of cooling,

what the thermostat does is control by temperature, so if you want it colder you set the temp colder and the compressor runs for longer until the temp is reached.

the supercool setting is just a lower temp setting.
