A friend has just suggested it would be cool if all the racers had some sort of mobile phone app that could send its position to a master computer back at the club house, and maybe then, the people at the club house can then watch the race and positions of the racers maybe on a google maps page?

Or something like that anyway...

Is thee anything remotely like that available?
And not costing £1000 per user etc.... :-)

Ok well I am not an expert, I havent done this myself yet.

I am a member at Port Edgar Yacht Club on the Forth. Theyareusing the Strava cycle app. Seems like they all sign in to one account. They name the ride their boat name and then they can replay all the rides simutaneously on Google Earth.

Not sure of the details, I think the sailing secretary at the club sorts it. Looks like you would have to export all the tracks to google earth??

I've got an iPhone and run mAIS which sends my position every minute. May not be quick enough for racing.

And then the position sent can be viewed on a map with MarineTraffic on the web. If a busy area you can setup a 'fleet' to filter other vessels but never tried that.

Haven't played with it for some time, but seems to do what you are asking. And all free.
