Is there a right time?

Well, the wife wants to move house next year, so the boat will have to go. No pressure on this one and no time constraints, but if we were to find our dream house we want to be in the position where we can move quickly. So, the question is would we be better selling the boat this summer or waiting until next spring when the new season starts? 2005 S29 by the way.

you stand a chance of attracting someone who isn't trading up, or only from a small craft, and will be able to move quickly - however you are going to be weather dependant. if the sun comes out and the boat is on the water ready to go I think you are well placed - anyone with a small cuddy having enjoyed April will be looking for something a little more weather proof right now as well!

I m not sure when you want to sell it, and when it sells have much correlation, unfortunately. best start early!

Why not put a 'for sale' sign on now. Because you are under no pressure then you have no need to give way (too much!) to haggling.

I'm with gigm on this one - getting the best price and being able to move quickly on the house front seem uneasy bed-fellows. You have probably missed this years 'peak' selling period which runs from March to end June but there's nothing to stop you putting it up, taking your time and turning down offers that don't come close to your expectations. We sold our boat in May but wont start looking for its replacement until around October when the thought of having a boat all over winter might just weigh on the sellers mind.....!!

One thing's for sure. Your boat is not going to be worth more next year so you might as well put it on the market right now
In any case, if my experience is anything to go by, when SWMBO's start talking vaguely about dream houses, they know exactly which dream house they have in mind so expect this dream house to turn up sooner than you think /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

We're trading up to a bigger boat and faced similar dilemma as the current one needed to go before SWMBO allowed the next one to come. Only next one is not planned until 2008.
End of May I put my boat up for sale just in case ... guess what : last week-end somebody shows up and agrees to buy the boat. Now I'm stuck w/o a boat for the rest of the season (and it's only July) /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif but I now have plenty of time go visit many marinas looking for next boat /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

So there's always a positive side to everything ... (sigh)

Sounds like you had the same experience as me - put the boat up for sale expecting it to take a year - and then it goes and takes only a few weeks. Oh well.
