Is the \'forward stare\' a legitimate indicator of..

a sailor's intentions ?

Re: Is the \'forward stare\' a legitimate indicator of..

I've always had great difficulty telling the forward stare which means

'yes I've seen you, realised you have right of way and intend to pass as close to your stern as possible'

apart from the forward stare which means

'yes I've seen you but I mistakingly believe that I have right of way and intend to hold my course'.

I believe it so - particularly when allied to a kind of set of the shoulders and chin. the body language of a man who will not be swayed from his intended course. My mother used to drive like this I recall.

And of course the stare is altered for the benefit those on the receiving end.
My wife/skipper gets more than I , especially from those 'gentlemen' with steely blue eyes clenching a pipe between gritted teeth.
They believe she is more easily intimidated.
How wrong can man be!!!
