The first day of racing was abandoned as there was not enough breeze, the second day of racing has been abandoned due to too much breeze. Is this already discredited spectacle about turn into an even bigger farce?

no, not cancelled due to too much breeze but because of the waves caused by the strong winds of yesterday and overnight. I was out there for the last AC which was fantastic; this time around it has lost some appeal (but I will watch it on the web if they ever race). Every time I see an Oracle salesman I tell them the same thing - get Ellison to stop pi**ing around with the AC in court and I may consider buying your product. For some reason it hasn't worked ;)

To be fair, I suspect that the current egoistic approach by both defender and challenger, is not unlike the original scraps in the early 20th century between Sopwith and Vanderbilt etc., who built monster craft solely for the purpose of outdoing one another. The multi-challenge format of the recent cups, which has produced some very interesting racing and gained the interest of the general public, being a relatively new development. Hopefully, the future cups will get back to a match racing format where helmsmanship, tactics and crew are equally important as boat design. The main concern for the current crews seems to be to keep the monsters from destroying themselves and to finish the course - the more reliable or faster boat for the conditions will win!

Let it go back to being fought in boats like these

Yes, wave height of 1.5m too much for delicate boats. Too far from reality for me, so not interested. Embarrassing really.

I guess it's no different to a F1 motor racing team not being prepared to race on a bumpy track or a national cricket team not playing on a bumpy pitch.....

My proposal, which I think I may have made here before, is that the race should be around eight randomly selected points in the North Atlantic, chosen and notified to the crews ten minutes before departure. The sequence in which they were turned would be free choice.
