Is Rathlin Island worth visiting?

Another "yes" vote. It would be a shame to miss it. How many other nearby islands have a population of about 70. I last visited there in 2008. As a contrast to living near a city (Manchester) it is fantastic. I recall feeling a great sense of community spirit.

Thank you everyone for your helpful hints and guidance. We departed from Ballycastle, and attempted to sail. Sadly the wind was only about five knots so zilch progress and the engine went back on. No reading on the tachometer so I went to investigate the alternator (belt gone etc?) and found the crank shaft pulley had fallen off! Much rooting in the bilge and SWMBO ghosting along under sail and I never did find the wood ruff key.

I put the thing back together with some thread lock on the nut by which time the tide had taken us past Rathlin.

Therfore I regret it remains on the 'to do list'.

Better anyway to visit in the spring as the bird colonies are at their peak and puffins abound.
You will enjoy Islay.

A brisk walk from the pontoons at port ellen to ardbeg to purchase a replacement for the empty bottle from the night before, and to clear the head.

picking up a mooring at ardminish bay gigha, is also a worthwhile stop, when your ready to leave islay.
