For me owning a boat is akin to owning a classic car, I know it needs lots of attention and I enjoy lavishing it on her. However I constantly read about people having problems and complaining about having to repair there pride and joy.
If you leave your classic outside not used in the damp it will deteriorate faster than if kept inside a nice warm garage or used on a regular basis....................boats will do the same, especially in a salty aggressive atmosphere.
Owning a boat is about caring for it, not just jumping on board charging out to sea and then parking it for the next time, somewhere along the line the abuse will get you normally in the pocket.
A quick wash down outside and an oily rag inspection inside the engine room will reduce much of the wear and tear that is associated with boat ownership IMHO.
So be honest here.............who cleans the boat and inspects the mechanicals after every sea trip.

If I could work out how to do a poll I would???

Once on top of the work it's easy to keep her up together..

We spent days in the sunshine with the Y10 de rusting all the stainless, polished the topsides and oxallic acid the decks..

she looks lovely now and a quick wash down keeps her lookin' nice.

Sun warm weather all helps!!

Can't agree. I don't keep my boat in the garage. (well I do keep a Heron in there, to be honest) but I didn't take my Mini or Frogeyes out if it was wet, whereas that's pre-requisite for boating pleasure. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Not "after" Before!
I always do the inspection before departing on any trip, could save yer life let alone your pocket. all IMHO of course.

Confessions of a classic boat owner..

The engine, rig, etc get looked at on flat calm days when I'm bored.

I looked at the bobstay shackle last Sunday morning (cos I was taking a look at the mooring chain and shackles - low water springs and flat calm) and found I had forgotten to mouse it...
