Is nudity now obligatory for cruising yachtsman ?

I have seen more bare Arsen Wengers this year than probably 1995 when we last had a summer or is it just me ?

It used to be the case that if you forgot your swimming gear you at least went over the side in Y Fronts but I have even seen Swan dives with all a dangling off boats in anchorages !

Are normal yachting bins powerful enough I say or are x7 saving us from spoiling our dinners ?

Have to admit that I bought some decent rubber this year - a tight fitting wet suit. Nice...................................

No it is not obligitary. If people want their freedom what is the harm. I am sure you would rather have someone in the anchorage swimming nude than a boat with the music blaring and all shouting but at least they all had on their costumes.
Funny no one objects when it is a woman. I do not know what summer is being refered to because 2001 does not go down with me as the summer for going nude at least not in Scotland except for end of May.

Surely Cruising is one of the few remaining activities where we can still enjoy freedom. Nudity is merely a part of freedom. Perhaps if one's perception of nudity has been influenced by streakers then it is understandable that one's attitude might become a little negative, but to swim naked in a secluded anchorage such as North Harbour, Gometra as the sun rises is the very finest start to any day.

Make it mandatory for racing as well and we might finally get some decent TV coverage.......

Can I join Shirley Robertsons crew please . ? :)

Swimming nude has always been a pleasure, but it would take A LOT more sun to get me over the side in UK waters in anything less than a centrally heated wet suit.

This thought will give pleasure to all who know me - not a pretty sight - and particularly for the wife who thinks she shouldn't have to look either.

This reminds me of a situation when leaving the beautiful Lakka bay on Paxos, last June. Having hauled our anchor and in the process of taking in our fenders, we passed a yacht flying a Swedish ensign with probably six males aboard, all without a stitch on, drying themselves in the early morning sun. My sister cried out "don't look Julie" to which came the reply "don't be silly Mum, I'm a nurse!!

I\'ve a confession to make.

I did it myself this year. On charter in Croatia , in a small remote bay steep to all round with wooded slopes, miles from any town or village with the anchorage to ourselves. We couldn't resist a dip in the altogether. And under the circumstances above what would be the last craft you would think I would see. A bloody pedallo !!! Where it came from I'll never know.

Re: I\'ve a confession to make.

If you want proper privacy in Greece just stop the boat at least a mile off shore and drift. Always have someone on board who can use the engine in case you drift off too far. They can also keep a look out for approaching boats. There is nothing quite like swimming in warm blue water with the bottom 2000 feet below you. For a bit of fun, remove all loose items from the dingy, keep it attached to the boat, turn it upside down and play 'king of the castle' on the dingy. With constant immersion the underside is usually a little slimy which makes staying on quite a challenge.
One last comment for all the prudes who tut tut! If you have never tried it you have no idea what you are talking about.

Naked snorkelling

swimming and snorkelling (in warm water) with nothing on was one of the extreme pleasures of a recent holiday - until the local remora came to say hello! Didnt stop us, and soothed the mozzy bites (water, not remora)

Re: Naked snorkelling

Every time I've snorkled for any length of time, I usually get a sunburnt back. I wouldn't be able to sit down for a week if I tried it in the altogether !!!!!
