For those of you who bought a year or so ago when the dollar was about 1.40, you must be kicking yourseklves now with it nudging 1.80 or more.

There must be some bargains to be had, after all not all boats from across the pond are bad, and what about chandlery gear, prices should be tumbling in the swindleries, somehow suspect they aren't, not that I've checked recently.

Anyone importing must be onto a real winner at the moment.

Perhaps I should change my name to Lucky /forums/images/icons/wink.gif I am getting my new boat from the US in the next few weeks, this will be paid for in dollars, plus I am over there on Sunday for a cracking two weeks ski-ing and then off sailing in the sun. The exchange rate is the icing on the cake for me, outgoing empty suitcases seems to be the order of the day /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Can you find me a good quality diesel engined, 35 - 40 ft boat from this Merica place. ( Wherever That Is) Wot dont look like something out of a jelly mould with qualities and resalability to match Please with out the pylon thingy for a fly bridge with another on top, then another. And being as no one else appears to want to trade with them anymore. Else why would there money shrink. Why should I??

Well I have just ordered mine - deposit wired over, build starts this week, delivery in May/June. Total price has dropped by £40k since I started the diaologue with the builder.

Just finalising sails (from US too) and electronics (to be bought and fitted in UK for warranty, support, calibration reasons). Just the shipping and handling to finalise.

A few years ago, Brit boat builders were using the high value of the dollar as an excuse for rising prices as grp materials are priced in dollars. Now that the dollar has fallen, I confidently expect them to slash their prices accordingly. Oh, look, there's a farm animal flying past the window
But, good news for us as our Fleming 55's are also priced in dollars so, seeing as Santa failed me once again, about 10dollars to the £ should be about right

Lucky Git!!
Just don't run into any drunken Pilots or Trigger happy Sky Marshalls,...
Oh! and wash yer hands after eating yer BA Runny Egg Sarnies, they might want to fingerprint ya! /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

Fleming 55

I'm getting very sceptical about the existence of Santa Claus cos mine didn't appear either. Maybe he knows the exchange rate will get better still and is waiting for next Christmas?

We can only live in hope.

Re: Fleming 55

Me too. I might have to ask for a Broom 50 next year and see what happens

Trigger happy sky marshalls, what do you reckon to that? I must say I wouldn't wamt to be involved in a shoot out in a an aircraft at 30,000ft. Don't know why they don't have a seperate air system between cockpit and cabin fully sealed, and if a hi-jack occurs, pump sleeping gas into the main cabin, this could also be activated by cabin crew /forums/images/icons/wink.gif Or keep one poisonous meal on board for the kidnapper, mind you I think I may have eaten that one a few times by mistake /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

I import my boats from the USA and pay in dollars and the exchange rate is making a huge difference.

Cant see the importers over here that deal in US boats lowering the price, they probably want to make hay whilst the sun shines, especially as the US economy is so bad they are also probably able to get discounts on their new boat stocks. Good luck to them!!

Naaah!

You're missing the point. In the boat industry (particularly for biggish boats), price is not the main issue.
The reason why people from US buy our boats and not the other way round is that (most of) ours are fine, whilst (most of) theirs are awful.
