I'm toying with the idea of selling Deep Joy and getting something else, and was wondering whether now is a good time to put the boat on the market.

Clearly the economy is still very depressed, and there doesn't seem to be a lot of money around, and I'm also not sure whether the end of the season is the right time in general.

Any thoughts you might have would be welcome.

It is true it is the end of the season, but last year I advertised my boat at the end of August with the idea that she might not sell for several months. She was gone in October at very near asking price and I purchased my new boat in December (so another deal out of season). Market or no market, it is also a matter of luck and circumstances.

Lets not go there, I have just sold a boat to an estate agent (I think). He's been playing cat and mouse all week and the cheque is now in the post I'm told.

I need a long, long lie down after this one......

You don't seriously take cheques, do you?

Cue the apocryphal Mayday story.

Yacht: Mayday. Mayday. Mayday. This is yacht Plonker, Plonker, Plonker.

CG: Yacht Plonker, what is the nature of your problem, how many persons aboard and what is your position?

Yacht: The engine won't start, there are two persons aboard, and I'm the MD of a chain of estate agents.

Jonic, I know you are a pro (if you know what I mean) but what you say echoes the advice I was given by one of your peers years ago. The last boat we sold we were complemented by just about everyone who look at her. We took everything off, emptied lockers, cleaned everywhere, she looked 'new' but relative to her age.

+1
This is not a bad time to start to advertise....

as mentioned in other threads.... other peoples dirt is very unattractive... so advertise it in a very clean condition..

Advise setting up your own website e.g. www.sailingscotty.com and putting lots of good photos on it with inventory etc.. and sticking ad' with link to your website on all free sites such as 'Boats and outboards' etc.
