I bought this BF2 a few years ago, a nice little engine, all running fine, no problems. It was a good price and local so I picked it up and stored it as I’ve also got a nice little Yam 2.3

I thought I’d use the Honda this year and got it out but nothing would start it. Stripped the carb and found some oil, but a pit puzzled as only ever been stored upright. Stripped and cleaned carb, fresh fuel, some more engine oil and then went to start tonight.

Bloody thing started but smoked like there was no tomorrow and then started chucking oil out of god knows where.

Any ideas? Does it sound fatal?

Thanks, James

Hi, you wont need to clean the carb.....the engine is overfilled. Oil will be coming out of the crank breather into the airbox and taken into the engine via the carb causing smoke. Im guessing its the bf2d model....oil capacity is only 250ml. Once drained and refilled it will smoke for around 5 minutes from every orifice. Dont be alarmed. It will be fine. Make sure the oil breather is seated correctly into the airbox. If its kinked it will cause backpressure and smoke.
Hope this helps

Followed Steve’s instructions to the letter and, hey presto, she started up absolutely fine today!

Smoked a bit but nothing too antisocial. Thanks so much for all your help!
