I use a halfords charger to top up the battery when plugged in to the shore. Having doubts that its doing much so checked battery voltage at 12.6 switched on charger and still 12.6 does this indicate new one needed?

When charging from the outboard the voltage jumps to 14 something.

Are all the settings and switches correct for the battery ?

Do little lights come on when the crocs are connected ?

Does the unit go "bzzzzzzzzz" when switched on ?

Thje little green "power on light comes on but it has 4 charging lights that progressively go out as the battery charges, none of these are illuminating.

Re going bzzzzz. My ears arent wha\t they were, will take one of the kids with me next time /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

if the output lights aren't going on when it's connected, then you may have a problem with the croc clips and the continuity to the battery terminals. Otherwise it's knackered, sorry.

Ooops, is there one of those little fuses on the unit ?

Theres a spare fuse like a car one tied to the handle .Didnt think it could be that with the power light on?

Fuse can be in the mains supply side to avert the transformewr or other circuit getting too hot is a fault situation.
And /or the fuse caan be in the low voltage circuit to avert a fire if the output is short circuited.
So yes it may still be a fuse failed. good luck olewill

[/ QUOTE ] Thats the fuse for the output. Check the one thats in at the moment or simply plug the spare in.. Make sure you do not have the + and - leads connected the wrong way round.

Will try that tommorow ,Cheers Vic . If not .Commited to the deep /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If it's one of their automatic ones, mine doesn't switch on if it thinks the battery is 'charged' (It just sits there with the "80%" LED on). Incidentally, it won't switch on if it doesn't think it's connected to a battery, either, so you can't just put a volt meter or bulb across the leads to check it.

As a suggestion: Switch on some 12V load (lights, etc) without the charger to drop the battery voltage a bit and check the battery voltage again as the charger is switched on.

Otherwise wiring; output fuse (as suggested above).

replaced the output fuse ,now works again. Stupidly I hadnt considered that it had an input and output fuse. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
