Is it worth buying a chartplotty thing?

Thanks for the info, Zagato - my plotter fits into the same slide as the hatch boards, either at bridge deck level or one board up. It's vulnerable to knocks, and useless if I need both boards in! I might adopt your clever idea, though I'd like to work the catch out to be strong enough to take the weight of a wave in the cockpit without bursting inward.

One idea could be to simply put a batten/lip on the inside the length of the near vertical side with a small sliding bolt that holds the batten/lip in place all the way down rather than it trying to pivot/waggle in one place - if you see what i mean. Will draw a pic, it's easier to explain. Mount the sliding bolt on an offcut off the lip to gain correct height!

I have two brackets each for the VHF & GPS so the kit can easily be transferred from cockpit to cabin without disconnecting anything! The oak wood is from an old kitchen door which was just the right thickness luckily, just needed sanding back and varnishing.

Your signature appears to be "borrowed", without attribution, from p152 of "The Meaning of Liff" by Douglas Adams and John LLoyd, as discussed by the latter in a recent Radio Times...

Mike.
Yes, you're bang on the money. Wrabness is a place of beach huts and English summers, so the definition is spookily accurate as well as sounding it. I didn't mean to claim I'd thought it up - perhaps I should put the attribution there.

Zagato - thanks for sharing your thoughts - there's certainly something there that I can use: do you want an attribution as well?:)

Everyone else: sorry about the thread drift!

Lol, half the attribution should go to Scillypete, I pinched the idea from him, he made a lower washboard from perspex, I took it a bit further with a cut out so you don't have to step over it, so I can't claim genius rights! Mine is cut below the step so you can still use the step.

I have also bought a cheap kids storage thing from Tesco's, the type that hangs off the back of the car front seats. It's a perfect fit to loop around the tiller and fix to the floor boards - another picture needed! Good for binoculars, drinks, sarnies, gloves etc

£3 as opposed to the £30 cockpit bags in chandlers - bargain ;)
