Just arrived in through the front door to find polling cards for the June EU elections.

Bent down picked them up, read them, selected mine, tore it in half and filed it under "D" for dustbin and carried on, maximum time in my hand 5 secs, I think I'm getting better at this and will be attempting 4 secs next time.

I don't believe in encourging the B*******ds.

When you consider the cost in human lives this nation has endured so that we can live in a relatively free country I strongly believe in voting.

However, given the uselessness of the political parties in this country I never vote for them.

I simply spoil my paper. That way they have to count it and my frustration has, in some small way, been registered.

That is my plan .. although I am now so upset with the continual deception practiced by the Labour party I would vote for anyone with a chance of unseaating them!

I may have to break a promise of a lifetime I made to myself i.e. I would never vote again until someone put “none of the above” on a voting slip. As for the EU elections I feel justified in tearing the slip up but I may just have to vote at the next general election to shift this lying, over taxing, two timing lot.

It will be interesting to see what happens because last time there was only a 10% turnout in the UK. I suppose if it is 11% then the polititions will be claiming a major victory, huge ground swell of opinion etc <s>. Just think of it, only 10% bothered to vote and we are being driven by this lot, can't they take the hint don't they think to ask themselves why the average UK citizen is generally NOT in favour of the EU as it stands?
Peter.

Voting upsets them

By not voting you are making their hold on power stronger, not weaker.

Next thing you know, it'll be "No one bothers to vote in the European elections, so we won't have any. We'll just appoint our mates to the job."

Re: Voting upsets them

um, i though they appointed their mates anyway. the voting thing is just to give the appearance to being connected with the public, like juries in the judicial system turning up and then being told which way to cast their vote in a complicated fraud when in fact there wd be far more accurate justice without the know-nowt juries.

Sadly, tho, as with much govt, the more "mates" appointed in the EU, the greater (obviously) the degree of corruption. Much better to vote for me, who will guarantee to let crap old failed politicians visit each other in nice places, tho not get paid for it.

Oh, and also i wdn't pay for southern spain to build a nice big motorway either, like the EU did, while uk motorways are total rubbish with service stations that were decent in 1965 but now worth less than the cars queuing to fill up with overpriced fuel that used to be cheaper than in the rest of the EU but now isn't, but could be if we weren't in the EU and could use our own resources such as fishes in the sea, coal in the ground, oil in the ground under the sea, and most importantly these days - an internationalist view that goes far beyond the EU's superficially "inclusive" stance but which on closer inspection permits anyone to join or work anywhere PROVIDED that they don't have black skin.

Sail to the Azores! and take advantage of all that EC support and cheap marinas..seems to me they're doing a fine job (if your sailing in the azores or driving in Southern Spain that is!)

Re: Voting upsets them

That's what they do anyway.

I don't think the EU parliament has any power. It is purely a gravy train for the MEP who get monsterous salaries and even larger expense accounts for doing nothing of any importance to anyone.

The real power is with the Commission.

I have quite a few French friends who didn't bother voting in the first round of the last presidential elections... Nobody really believed that one vote could make a difference. Look what happened, the National Front leader Le Pen arrived second.

For my part I don't agree with any of the parties, but the I will vote for the lesser of the evils, because I don't want to see our country represented by the BNP at the European Parliament.

"For evil to triumph, all that good people have to do is nothing"

Up to you...

Marc.

am proposing to stand for county council this time on june 10th, the encumbants have been in power for 5 yrs and a month now cause the assembly in its infinite wisdom decided that they didnt want the county elections to interfere with others (their words)
any way hopefully me and a few others can get in and start to clear up the mess left by a coalition of plaid cymru and the socialists.
not voting or spoiling votes just plays into the hands of the lying corrupt shower that are in power now.
my grandad went to the war in 1916 at the age of 16 and recieved the military medal for courage on the field of battle, my dad went to war in 1944 and they did this because they thought it was right to fight for freedom and democracy
the lads in angola that i worked with would have given their left rognon to live in a democracy and have the vote
dont waste your vote

With you 100%!! Living in the North West there is a real chance that BNP will win seats (they would only need about 9% to get a seat).

HWMBO usually writes "None of the above" but will be voting this time.

I also feel a duty to vote as one of my great aunts was a sufferagette and I was lucky that she was still around when I was a little girl.
