Hi Nick
Use it at every at every oppurtunity, there are probably more sea going days here in Wales, in the winter, than there are in the summer,(possibly the same in the Solent)something to do with the wind, where sea and land temperatures are a little bit more even, so onshore /offshore winds are lot less influential, cold though, but then being a keen fisherman i wear a floatation suit, when on the water, and neoprene gloves etc, biggest problem there lies in remembering not to over exert ones- self, otherwise you just overheat and melt!!!!! i for one am looking forward to those bright clear frosty cold mornings, with the sea like a sheet of glass and not a ripple to be seen, with big fat cod lurking in the depths,Ah the bliss, hopefully the boat might be working as well, now that would be a bonus!!!!!!!!

We go out in winter. Here in the Algarve it can still be quite hot in the middle of the day, gets pretty nippy at night though. The water doesnt feel as cold as in summer as the differential is not as much.
Enjoy your boat year round, I'm sure it does no good to be left for six months of the year doing nothing but sitting on a mooring.
Nick, believe me and I had a boat the Hamble/Chi area from about 1967 to 1980. The boating can be magnificent, seas so flat you can skim a stone from Needle to Cherbourg. All you need is to wrap up warm.
I bl**dy hope so. I didn't buy the boat so that I could use her 3 months of the year! Looking forward to the so called calm weather. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif
........'suite' = settee and two arm chairs, not wearing apparel......although with everything else you've got on the boat maybe 'suite' was what you meant? Must have very effective waterproofing treatment tho if iits a 'dry suite' /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif
That's the main reason why we bought a boat with a wheelshelter. Only problem now is finding out how to capture & store all the hot air from this forum so that we can have some heating.
I agree with other comments to this one, some of my best cruising has been in winter on frosty
mornings (no wind) resulting in sunshine and flat seas. The brisk air makes you feel alert and alive
a bit like when skiing.
Add to that the fact that your using your boat, rather than having it sitting on land with you
at home bored waiting for the so called "season" to start. My season is all year round whenever
possible. Even my maiden voyage on the god ship Finola was in early Jan

people buy boats that you can only use 50% of the year beats me,and do they pay half the cost for a boat which has got half its bits missing. No chance they seem to pay even more to get a few zips and a faded bit of tent./forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

hmmm.and I thought it was because that was the only one they could offer you! What a poor memory I seem to have. Trust you are enjoying it anyway.
I bought a hardtop for exactly this reason and have not regretted it once (well maybe once or twice at the beginning of August this year) and at times in the autumn / winter I find myself positively grinning when I see open boats and their wrapped crews.
Ah. A man after my own heart. To many folk go for tent boats, they call them sports boats just to impress. They dont look sporty to me, with their head stuck through the side of the oil cloth in the rain.../forums/images/icons/laugh.gif Nothing nicer than to sit with cup of tea and heater going full blast, watching coronation St /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif whilst wind howles and rain comes down horizontally. Walking to the pub is a bit of a bummer though. But same problem as at home.

some folk are more easily parted from their money than others it would appear.
Still all those zips to undo keeps em of the wtaer and alongside the dock.More searoom for us proper all year round chaps..
