As you know they like the water . I had one that would jump into any pool , pond or sea . Not so good however when you have boat control and safety to contend with at the same time .

So do you ship instead a dog or ibtch that does not like the water

After thought applies to humans . Once in a plane girl passenger next to me when she saw clouds said she wanted to jump off . Turned out she was into sky diving . good job she was next to window and not near emergency exit /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

My dog was a labrador with some collie. Luckily the hair was all black labrador so none of that wet dog smell beloved byowners of long haired dogs. Mine didnt jump into the water without some encouragement, (although he could swim much better and faster than me), but he did love travel in the tender, and didnt matter whoes tender, f there was somebody in one, the dog was always willing to join them for a quick trip, whethter they wanted it or not!He spent many many uears with us and always came onto the boat. The biggest problem with a lab is that they are garbage disposal units and can gain a bit of weight. Lifting him onboard was a bit of a mission as he got older.

Sadly gone to the great walk through the trees in the sky several years ago and still missed. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Ahh yes...I have owned several Labradors.
I dumped one in the water once when upsetting an Enterprise
When I righted the boat the dog was reluctant to swim near enough to grab, in fact he was making for Southend at a good pace. I had to beach to chase him and it took a while. Much cheering from my "friends". He was not keen to come sailing after that. No sense of humour some dogs!

If you do have a lab on board do make sure he has a harness on as it is a bit of a struggle getting a fully grown wet lab back on board.
Also make sure your lab has someting secure to stand/sleep on they hate fibre glass under foot.

this is Benjamin with harness, he is the one with the fluffy coat,

Lovely dog Poter. Your Benjamin seems happy in the cockpit
Regretably my bitch seems to love the water, which means foreshore, which in turn means mud, lots of it!
This means apologies to all the people she becomes "friendly" with as well as the landlord who has to bring her back to me.
If I then try to hose her down, she runs for it. I am not allowing her onboard covered in mud. Therefore she is usually left with daughter no 2 who is supposed to own her!
All in all I think the answer to the question is No.

We took our Labrador bitch sailing for a week when she was six months old! Whilst a little cautious at first she is now the most relaxed on board, having a habit of falling asleep on the leeward foresail cleat before a tack......

A very keen swimmer, she wears a lifejacket and we tend to keep her clipped on, but otherwise she's fine on board! See avatar to the left!
