I think you're right. Now we can see how many people are viewing there seems to be a lot of people just reading and not commenting at the moment.

What the forum really needs is one of those contentious threads that gets everybody going.

A good old fashioned ' colregs' incident usually suffices.

Perhaps we should just make one up if nobody's got a real incident to talk about.

bear in mind this is the first time we've had a count of the number of views. in the past the lurkers went undetected unless you looked in 'who's online'

i think things will get back to normal as soon as the wage slaves have cleared the backlog of real work and are looking for something to relieve the tedium. it may also be that by this stage of the winter most of the boaty topics have been aired and we need a new season to provide a fresh stock of anecdotes. maybe the guys down under can help us get back into the swing of things.

Well that's fairly contentious.

Cars or boats ?

Boats - Why are there no female America's Cup Skippers ?

Cars - you only get cheaper insurance coz you get the bloke to drive most of the time so he has more chance of accidents and or points on his licence.

There....done my bit...

What has this got to do with peeps from the antipodes (sp?) ??

I didn't know that they were being trod on ! Is it something to do with being on the other side of the world?

Yes, we keep getting these big Monty Pythonesque feet with English socks on stomping around down here.

Cats are especially susceptible to getting underfoot /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

It may just be me, but I find that I start to reply many times, but only submit perhaps 50% of them. I guess there are many more people "standing at the back" rather than being at the front - this is no bad thing to my mind.

IMHO, Jeff.

NB, I nearly didn't post this either! Perhaps I shouldn't have /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Ideally you need to start a post that involves being flashed by a speed camera, In a macG26 whilst failing to give way to a racing dingy sailor.

....and if the photo revealed that the skipper was eating a certain brand of meat pie at the time whilst wearing a deer stalker hat to show he is in favour of hunting.....

No, what you need to do is ask what pattern underwear the trendy sailors will be sporting this year. My guess is one of testosterone tweed, cruising crinolene or stinkie satin

Whilst Foxhunting on Boxing Day, I was passed, on my traditional Manky Auld Horse, by a woman riding a quad bike. Not only was she exceeding the speed limit for the woods, but she was also riding in an exceedingly inconsiderate manner and pulled in just ahead of me, causing mud and leaf mould to splatter in my face and in clear contravention of the rules of the road, given that (1) I was the Trot-on horse and (2) I had consumed several pints of Olde Scruttock's Finest MG Bitter, and was clearly constrained by draft.

Later that same day, I was riding near Sandown when what appeared to be a number of stampeding horses ran across my path in a similarly inconsiderate manner. When I remonstrated with them, the ringleader (I assume) shouted "Keep out of the way, you blind ****! Can't you see that we're racing"? Why, oh why, do we put up with behaviour like this?

Whilst I am on the subject, I wonder if any forumites have a view on the correct colours to be worn by jockeys whilst racing? For example: is it appropriate to wear the Al Makhtoum burgee, or should this only be hoisted when the owner is in the saddle?

Hope this helps.
