To sink boats flying a pirate flag?

'cause these ratty livaboard 'houseboats' near me all insist on flying one. And when there is a problem, like a bit o' wind or water, I end up 'rescuing' them, fixing their moorings, towing them back to their moorings, etc.

So can I save myself grief by just sinking them, and saying "They was a pirate, see the flag."

I believe "Piracy With Violence" still carries the death penalty in these lands.

If you can provoke a little fisticuffs when you attempt this sinking exercise it may be the solution to allyour problems.

You had better get confirmation about capricorn's assertion that it carries the death penalty. Wouldn't want you to make a mistake and get put away yourself for violent behaviour. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I wasn't thinking of violence. I was thinking of a momentary lapse of attention whilst at the tiller of a 50ft steel boat. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Re: Smokescreen?

Alister

When I was in the Royal Navy the boat I served on was allowed to fly the Jolly Rodger under certain circumstances.

The last time it was flown was after the sinking of the Belgrano.

Unfortunately you can`t sink them but you could try giving them the Black Spot

Yorkshire: special rules

Yiou are allowed to sink anything in Yorkshire, because of course the rivers aren't very deep, and the laws of motion/flotation weren't invented by a Yorkshireman so don't really hold true in the mind of locals. BUT you must be quite sure of your SwaleUreNidd, WharfeAireCalderDonDerwent and have some sort of story that the occupants were derogatory about Sir Geoff OR Harvey Smith OR Peter Lorimer in which case you will definitely get clean away with it at a jury trial.

Re: Smokescreen?

Belgrano was sunk by HMS Conqueror (hunter-killer submarine).

They flew the Jolly Roger when they entered their homeport. Submarine custom after a sinking.

Seem to remember in caused a stink - some left-wing feelings were hurt. We were at war - get over it!

ye're right, plum duff .. it t'was the failure of the dome that forced a rethink on the hanging initiative after DWP offered the site to Endymol as reality tv with the idea of surplus penshuners being invited to a quick end .....

Re: Smokescreen?

One interesting point about the Jolly Roger is that the skull and crossbones was a Hollywood invention. The original pirate flag was flown by French pirates and was a simple red flag, the "Jolie Rouge" or Jolly Red. This was pronounced by English seamen as "Jolly Rouge-ay", later corrupted to Jolly Roger. Or so I seem to remember reading somewhere.
