My annual contract runs out end of sept and for the last 3 months I'v been pestered almost daily by marina staff either by letter or in person asking if I'm renewing my contract . It really p*sses me off.
Was approached to day with the same question!!
I'v now told them to stick their berth . Do other marinas pester their berth holders the same ?
On another subject ----why do I have the magazine yellow advert thingy blocking part of the typing space down the right hand side and how do I get rid of it !!!!

Maybe your marina is feeling nervous about how many bertholders might not renew their contracts? I guess quite a lot of people are looking at river moorings to save money.

Yachting mags and marinas sometime suggest there's a shortage of marina moorings. But if so, why do so many marinas pay for expensive booths at the Southampton Boat Show? Maybe it's part of the marketing-hype to keep prices as high as possible.

I am generally asked around 3 months from renewal if I am planning on staying. I think this is quite fair. Normally they have a waiting list so it allows them to tell the guy next on the list that a berth is coming free so they can make their plans.

In the Netherlands that sort of thing never happens.

The standard HISWA contract provides that if you don't cancel the berthing contract 5 months before renewal is due it automatically rolls over! No pestering but when times are hard and marina berths are available the marina owners enforce the contract - I know from personal experience in 2008 at the Jachthaven Atlantica in Stad aan 't Haringvliet - my letter in January 2008 saying that I was intending to move on and wouldn't be renewing my contract in April was met with a response to the effect that it was OK for me to move on but they'd be requiring payment of the full year's fees as I hadn't cancelled by the end of October 2007. I stayed for another year, but cancelled the contract with effect from 31 March 2009 in February 2008.

They need to know if you are staying or leaving but shouldn;'t pester you. Sounds like you were ready to leave anyway.

Use Firefox and get the Adblocker Add-on and then no more ads on webpages:)

Was n't planning on leaving but got fed up with everytime i saw one chap in particular I was confronted with the same old question with the rider "when will you know?" . Thats PHY for you .

Thanks for the firefox advice BTW .
