Is it just me....

...or is the same for everyone?

I have just taken delivery of the new boat.(First and Last time!). Normally, when I get a Manky Auld Boat, I tear it to bits and reassemble in the fashion I really want it to be in.

However, I felt strangley uneasy/queasy when I went to put the first screws in the immaculate bulkhead for the cabin fire extinguisher. I carried on but still found that every time I went to spear a pristine surface, it felt 'wrong'.
Even worse was when I had to snip the tie-wraps holding the engine wiring loom, and remove a relay box so I could install the automatic fire extinguisher in the engine bay.
I finally started to feel better when I got the headlining out in the galley area to install more lighting. But it was all weird.

Has anyone else experienced this strange phenomenon?

Congrats on the new boat Jim.

I too felt that way when I first bought Stingo, but soon got over it when the thrill of fitting all the new gadgets took over. There are now so many screw holes in her, that it's a bit like sailing around in a colindar.

It can actually be worse than that. Try building your own boat. However much you try to get it right from the outset you still have things you want to move and holes you want to drill in the immaculate varnished bulkhead you spent hours on.....
I guarantee that after one year afloat you will have things that annoy you intensely and just have to be changed.....

When I bought my boat recently a few outside observers said that the best two days of boat onwership were the day you buy it and the day you sell it. I'm glad to say that has turned out to be bollocks!

oooh yeah - I can relate to that. The first job I did on mine was to attack the pristine shiney varnished wood above the chart table with a 4" hole saw in order to install the VHF speaker, eek /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif. My usual "measure twice, cut once philosophy" turned into "measure 20 times, calm down, remeasure 10 times, have cup of tea to reduce heart palpitations, measure again, double check the tools, measure again, and then cut." Its getting easier but I'm dreading attacking a brand new lewmar 50 deck hatch with a 3" hole saw in order to fit the hatch ventilators /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

If you get too nervous, give me a shout - I have absolutely no problems in drilling holes in other peoples new toys. I'll even do it blindfolded to prove my point /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
