Is it difficult converting a Webasto Heater from 24v to 12v?

I have been offered a 24v Webasto diesel fuel air heater by a friend, the only problem is its 24v and everything on my boat is 12v.

Now I realise that all I need to do is wire it up to a couple of batteries in series and that would solve the problem, but that would make it "non standard".

I am guessing the 12v and 24v models are essentially the same - Can anyone tell me how difficult/expensive it would be to convert the webasto heater to 12v?

It's possible but expensive.

Either run it on 24v or get a 12v unit

If its one of the Airtop 2000D heaters it works on both 12 and 24 volts anyway. Thats according to the manual that came with mine. These are the ones with a microprocessor control board in them : the 'D' designation in the model number indicates this. Mine was bought in 1998 when they were a newish model. It blinks error codes via a LED on the control panel.

A possible approach could be to get one of these 12 to 24 V . It claims to charge from 12 volts but deliver 24. I've never used one or bought anything from them, but they have been around for some time.

I don't see how they can be dual voltage, as they have protection circuits for you battery, my HL32 shuts down if the battery dips below 12V as a feature, so surely a 24V unit wouldn't fire up on 23V or less.
