Hi Wet is'nt it

Opinions please.

Looking at the Furono 1623 radar . The screen measures 90mm x 120mm marketed as 6". Anyone got one and is it really big enough?

It is very much up to the user if the screen is large enough, have you actually seen one in the flesh yet? I played with one at the boatshow a few years ago. The screen resolution was very nice, at the time I thought the screen was nicer than that of it's bigger brother 1721?

Although not as nice in my opinion as the Raymarine and Simrad displays, but workable and I could have coped with the menus, even some of them which leave you wondering about the programmers. They in are my opinion better than the JRC screens.

The thing that put me off was the 15" dome which meant a wider bandwidth than the more popular 18" radars used on yachts. I had to leave the Furuno stand as they did seem to employ the most patronising and ill informed gits in the UK. They would not answer technical questions and suggested I did not need to know the answers I sought. That tainted my view of the company unfortunately.

Thanks for your reply DogWatch.
No have not seen one .
I noticed an advertisment and was attracted by the price. Have'nt had much to do with radars for the last twenty years when they were still the size of large televisions. I used a Raymarine C80 last year but that level of kit is a tad expensive for me at the moment.

Cheers
Howard
