HOVERCRAFT INTERTIDAL SURVEY
Undertaken By English Nature Conditional Monitoring
Of
Sites Designated as Special Area of Conservation

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that on Wednesday 20 August 2008 a survey using a hovercraft will take place at four sites in the Harbour.

The survey will be collecting samples for English Nature as part of the conditional monitoring for the Special Area of Conservation Designation afforded to the River and wider Solent Area.

The Hovercraft will show a yellow flashing light and will be escorted while operating in the River by a Harbour Authority patrol boat.
Information and warnings will be broadcast on channel 68, Hamble Radio.

Mariners should keep a good lookout and keep clear of survey activity.

This NtRU’s will be self cancelling on Thursday 21 August 2008

BURSLEDON REGATTA

1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the 138th Bursledon Regatta will take place in and around Bursledon Pool on Saturday 23 August and Sunday 24 August 2008. Details can be found at:

2. On Saturday 23 August dinghy racing will take place over the length of the river during the forenoon. In the afternoon events will be centred at Bursledon Pool where a heavy concentration of all types of small craft is expected. All mariners should maintain an efficient lookout and navigate with caution.

TORCH LIGHT PARADE AND SON ET LUMIERE
RESTRICTION OF MOVEMENT


3. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that at Bursledon Pool on Saturday 23 August at approximately 2030hrs a grand finale incorporating a torch light parade of dinghies commencing from Lands End Hard and a Son et Lumiere with accompanying pyrotechnics will take place. A number of other pyrotechnics will also be involved from the landward side.

4. The River will be closed or restricted access will be allowed in the Bursledon area from approximately 2030hrs until 2100hrs. The main channel will be open but controlled by two Harbour Patrol Launches. All mariners should maintain an efficient lookout and navigate with caution.

BURSLEDON FIREWORKS – RIVER CLOSURE

5. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that on Saturday 23 August 2008 at 2100hrs, or soon thereafter, a firework display will take place from the bank at Lands End and from a moving barge and pontoon at Elephant Boatyard. Prior to the fireworks a torchlight procession of small tenders and dinghies with many children on board will move from Lands End to Bursledon Pool.

6. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that from 2100 until approximately 2130hrs, or soon thereafter, the River will be closed to traffic from Lands End to Bursledon Pool. Harbour Authority patrol vessels will be directing craft as appropriate and will maintain a safety zone around the firework displays. All mariners should maintain an efficient lookout and navigate with caution.


7. All Mariners are advised that the area of Bursledon is likely to be severely congested during this period and small vessels may be poorly lit. All vessels should navigate with extreme caution and at slow speed consistent with safe navigation. All masters are reminded of the 6 knot speed restriction (Harbour Master’s Direction No 1) and the need to restrict wash ensuring it is not a nuisance or danger to others (Bye Law 5).

8. VHF Channel 68 will be monitored by Harbour Authority, Police launches and other vessels assisting.
