Hi,

I need to make a brace to hold the windscreen wiper motor in place.. This is to stop it turning when there is a high load on the wiper.. I have some 12mm B&Q hardwood ply from another project at home already and wondering if it's suitable to use for this.. It's under the front inside the pilothouse and very very unlikely to ever get wet..

Will it be OK or do I need to try and track down down some "proper" marine ply?

just use it!
how are you going to bond it to whatever is around it?
If you use epoxy to bond it, just splash some around and then paint it, will probably overlast the boat unless it starts dripping on it from the hole

The brace will be two parts, one of each side of the wiper motor, about 4-5" long.. They will pretty much wedge up against the cavity that houses the motor so will only have a compressive load depending which stroke the wiper is on..

Plan was to make a template from cardboard to get the shape then cut the ply and then just "glue" the two pieces of ply in place with Sikaflex on all sides.. The sikaflex will just be to hold the brace in place, won't have any force on it..
