Irresponsible dumping of expired flares

All sorts of nasty things can get washed up on beaches-Glasgow used to delight in dumping sanitary towels and used sringes all over the beaches on Bute!
I recall a few years back there were also a whole load of WW2 phospor self igniting incendary bombs washed up .

Whats to stop me welding up a box about 3 feet cube with a calor gas burner in the bottom
Charging you lot a nicker a flare & loading up the box & burning them off
I suppose some jobsworth would stop me - but on what grounds?

If it is only me in someones field could that be an issue
Just so long as i did not burn down my caravan & transit or set light to my tarmac roller
If it all went wrong i could just hook up & move on

I think it is perhaps irresponsible of the authorities not to designate somewhere safe where they can be left. Last summer in Brittany I tried 10 different places before I found a fire brigade (the 4th) that would accept them for training purposes. I even went to the Marine Authority (Affaires Maritimes) to explain my difficulties. The very sympathetic person called headquarters who told him that they were working on a plan but the (one) person responsible was on vacation!

I resolved in future I would check depths on my charts....

The capitainerie organizes it for one day per year at Locmiquélic; however it's a date when I'm rarely available and on the spot. They won't stock them in advance. Last year it was the Sapeurs/Pompiers at Quimperlé who accepted them.

Once upon a time not so terribly long ago.
I used to mix up a old bucket of cement and stick the old expired flares in a dump 6 miles deep. It was the aproved methode.
Of course the Army and Navy used to dump thousands of old bombs over board.
The Americans keep thiers just incase they find some one to drop them on.

I supose one could just duct tape an old alarm clock to them before droping off at you local police station. I'm sure they would call somebody in to get ride of them.

I still can't see anything wrong with option 1, though there's something in me that loves the last option. Don't forget to scrawl Allah Akbar (or IRA, or Cornish Liberation Army, or what ever) on them in big felt pen. Probably best to wear gloves when making it and borrow a car from someone you don't like when dropping it off.

For flare disposal you should have been in Fethiye two nights ago. The local football team won promotion to the next division. Supporters were letting off flares all over town!

yes its irresponsible dumping but what real life alternatives are there? Its parallel to fly tipping of domestic rubbish when the authorities dont do what we pay them for and start to charge / make life difficult.


Why dont hmg simply tell the coastguard to take them?
