Cruising home Sunday saw two chaps wearing waders in a yellow rescue type boat at the start of the island opposite the Waterside Inn. They had a rope around a big tree branch and they were trying to pull it away from the island into the river, didn't think much about it but 100 yards down stream there was a big branch in the channel a bit further on a 25 foot long huge branch. Got to the lock and reported this, the lockie was on his own but asked if we worked the lock he would go and investgate. Spoke to him today and the two guys were from Maidenhead rowing club. Apparently one of their boats hit a branch earlier so these two decided to clear the obstructions then cast them adrift into the main navigation channel. The Lockie is now dealing with the matter. Hope they throw the book at them.

fair's fair. These characters probably weren't acting with Club sanction and approval. More likely they took it upon themselves to remedy what they perceived as a problem. In short, blame them, not the Club.

Cmon Byron !! They represent the club , but as previously said, one only would expect this from these retards !
I'm no fan of Rowers however just because two dudes took it into their heads to take unofficial action shouldn't condemn the whole membership as 'retards' (A word I thoroughly disapprove of).

Tales of the Riverbank

Do we actually know if they just let the thing go,or or more likely perhaps moved it out the way and secured with bit of rope or wedged it somehow so it could be recovered or broken up and disposed of later ?
A few years ago came down the Medway late in the season to find a entire tree ( biggun) entirely blocking river and had to catch tide.
H,mm.as us Medwayites are all tough down here, decided to man up a bit.:)

It was either phone EA and wait(hours/weeks/months) or do something about it.
After a lot of faffing around got a rope round the thing and at full throttle managed to drag it a bit to one side.Reversed up stream and took a run towards top of tree where branches were thinnest.
Thought we were not going to make it a one point but after much branch chopping by my end of season knackered props we were free and away.
Did report situation at Allington.

No they just let them go into the main navigation channel. They had already cast two adrift the first was floating down 100 yards from where they were the second 50 yards. They were trying to pull a third one into the river when i went past, Mindless and stupid!!
