Hello All,
Does anyone have any helpful suggestions about the likely cause of the following problem? It is with the MS25A-A gearbox attached to aVolvo D2-55A engine from 2001. It has done 600 hours. Recently it has started to give a problem on an irregular basis. When I first reverse out of my marina berth it works fine. When I then go to select forward gear to move away it sometimes fails to select forward and sits in neutral despite the lever being in a forward position. A few moments panic stricken, large scale movements of the lever eventually produces forward gear and off we go. The gearbox never gives any further problem for the rest of that trip. The problem does not occur every time and never when the man from Volvo is present. It seems to happen when the boat has been left sitting for more than a week or so, but not every time.
The Volvo guy can't sort it until he can see it happen except he suggests lifting the boat and opening the gearbox, which I am reluctant to do. The lever, cables etc all seem in good condition and the engine has just had its annual service and sounds and feels good.
Any ideas?
David
